Abstract
918,942. Making planiform faced vessels. TEXSTAR CORPORATION. Dec. 7, 1961, No. 43827/61. Class 83 (2). A method of making a planiform faced vessel from rectangular tubes comprises juxtaposing a number of the tubes, aligning one exposed side of each in a plane, clamping the adjacent sides together and welding the tubes together substantially only at their ends. At least four rectangular sectioned tubes 15 are juxtaposed on and clamped to a plate 10, pressed together against an adjustable backing bar 21 and welded, brazed or soldered together at 27 along the V grooves formed by chamfers 29. After cooling, side welds 28 may be made extending approximately 1.5 inches from the ends. When long tubes are used the sections are preferably placed on end, filled with a coolant e.g. water and tack welded at spaced intervals along the length of the tube. A header tube 30 with communicating holes 31 may be welded at 32 across the ends of the tubes or alternatively a flat plate may be used to close the ends of the tubes, in which case communicating holes are drilled in the tubes prior to assembly. The section may be finally covered with sheets of metal e.g. stainless steel or plastic and suitably fixed with e.g. casein or synthetic resin glue. A complete vessel may comprise a number of sections welded together as above and may be used as a heating or refrigeration panel.
