Abstract

1487478 Tubular heat exchangers ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 23 April 1976 [19 May 1975] 21218/75 Heading F4S [Also in Division F2] In a heat exchanger, having a plurality of tubes 3À1 projecting through respective holes in a tube plate 2, replacement tubes are secured relative to the tube plate in a secondary plate 4 having holes aligned with those in the tube plate for receiving the replacement tubes which are secured in a fluid tight manner in the plate 4, e.g. by expansion thereof or by welding. The plate 4 may be thinner than, and formed of a material of lesser strength than the plate 2, and is sealed relative thereto by welding around the edge or by the interpositioning of a sealing member, e.g. an 0-ring 9 between the plates before peripheral clamping thereof via means 8. Some of the tubes may be secured, e.g. by welding, to both plates.
