918,145. Rotary pumps. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. Aug. 13, 1959 [Aug. 15, 1958], No. 27702/59. Class 110 (2) In a rotary pump of the outwardly-sliding vane and multiple abutment type, Fig. 1, the vane slots 7 in the rotor are formed with grooves 9, 10 as shown whilst the vanes are grooved at 11 in order to reduce cavitation and vane wear. In a modification, Fig. 4, the side walls of the vanes are grooved at 15 whilst the co-operating side walls of the rotor have grooves 16, 17-each groove 16 terminating in a transverse groove, see Fig. 5 (not shown).
