Abstract

918,017. Centrifugal pumps. DAVIDSON & CO. Ltd. March 20, 1961 [May 20, 1960; Nov. 16, 1960], Nos. 17906/60 and 39393/60. Class 110 (1). A centrifugal fan with a side inlet duct consisting of a semicylindrical part, which may be coaxial with the fan inlet eye, joined to a part of rectangular cross-section has two or more swivelling dampers, located in the rectangular part, connected by a linkage to each other, an operating handle and to a baffle, located at the periphery of the semicylindrical part of the duct. The dampers, which are defined as vanes pivoted about an axis between the two edges of the vane, can move from a fully-closed position to a fully-open position. The baffle, which is defined as a vane pivoted about one edge, moves from a position giving minimum baffling effect to a position giving maximum baffling effect as the dampers move from the fully-closed to the fully-open position. One of the dampers moves at a rate different from the others. A centrifugal fan has mounted in the rectangular side inlet duct 17 two dampers 19 and 20, rectangular in shape and arranged to overlap so as to block the duct completely when in the closed position. The damper 19 is twice as wide as the damper 20. The dampers are connected together by a linkage controlled by a handle 50 so that they rotate simultaneously but at different rates. The dampers are also connected by the linkage to a pivoted baffle 44 mounted in the semicylindrical portion 15. When the dampers are fully open the baffle provides maximum baffling effect and minimum baffling effect when the dampers are closed. In a modification, three dampers of the same size are mounted in a detachable sub-portion of the duct but with one damper rotating in parts of its travel at a different rate to the other dampers.
