Abstract

917,533. Resilient surfaces. FIAT S.p.A. April 24, 1961 [Sept. 27, 1960], No. 14759/61. Class 52 (4). A seat back comprises a base frame 1 formed by members 2, 3, 4, 5 on which parallel rods 11, 12 are floatingly supported by arms 7a, 7b, 8a and 8b pivotally connected to the frame 1 by their turned-over ends and to the rods 11, 12 by members with sleeve parts 9 fitted to the arms and collar parts 10 fitted to the rods 11, 12, a resilient surface 13, 14, 16 of rubber or the like being stretched between the rods 11, 12. The stretched surface is formed by a perforated highly resilient part 13, a perforated more rigid part 14 at the top and a second rigid part 16 at the bottom and is a backing for the foam rubber or equivalent filling 19 covered by a fabric sheet 20 which is secured to the frame 1. The rods 11, 12 are restrained by flexible non- extensible belts 17 when the back is unloaded. In a modification the arms 7a, 7b, 8a and 8b are replaced by two spring rods centrally fixed to the sides 2, 3 and fixed at their ends to the rods 11, 12. In another modification the rubber sheet 13, 14, 16 may be replaced by extensible canvas and rubber strips.
