Abstract

Compounds of the general formula <FORM:0917152/IV (b)/1> R being hydrogen, C3-8 alkyl, phenyl substituted methyl, menthyl or bornyl and X being bromine or iodine, are obtained by reacting CH3-CH=CHCOOR (R being as above) with ethyl magnesium halogenide, with or without cuprous chloride, treating the mixture with bromine or iodine, and then hydrolysing with dilute mineral acids or a saturated solution of ammonium chloride. In examples R is hydrogen, sec. and tert. butyl, l menthyl and d bornyl.
