Abstract

Thiophene di-sulphochlorides of the formula <FORM:0896040/IV (b)/1> where R is halogen (e.g. chloro, bromo and iodo) or an alkyl radical containing 1-6 carbon atoms, are prepared by treating the 2-R-thiophene with chlorosulphonic acid and thionyl chloride, e.g. at 40 DEG C.-100 DEG C. The disulphochlorides can be reacted with liquid ammonia to form the corresponding disulphonamides.
