Abstract
917,121. Cartridge-actuated tools; firing mechanisms. SARMI S.A. SOC. D'APPLICATIONS DE RECHERCHES MINIERES ET INDUSTRIELLES. June 8, 1960 [June 12, 1959], No. 20039/60. Addition to 901,374. Class 119. A firing mechanism, which as described is for a cartridge-actuated tool for firing pins 39, comprises a permanent magnet 42 held against movement in a housing 44 and an armature 46 of magnetic metal carrying the striker 36, the armature having two opposed flat faces 46a in sliding contact with two branches of a fork 47 which embraces the armature and is rigid with a rod 47a slidable in the casing and terminating in a lug 47b engaged by a tooth 48a on the trigger 48. A striker spring 50 acts between the forward end 51 of the armature and a shaped ring 52 slidable on the armature and urged against the fork 47. On pressing the trigger 48, the fork 47 is pulled forward and the spring 50 is compressed since initially the armature 46 remains magnetically held against the magnet 42. When the force of the spring 50 is sufficient or when the fork 47 abuts the forward ends of the flat faces 46a, the armature is pulled away and is thrown forward to fire the cartridge. A return spring 53 acting on the ring 52 together with the spring 50 return the parts to their initial positions in which the armature is magnetically held against the magnet 42.
