STANISZLAW OLSZOWIEC, OF NEW WATERFORD, NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA.
GUN.
Application filed April 22, 1924. Serial a... 708,111.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STANISZLAW OLszo- WIEC, a citizen of the United States, residing at box 351, New Waterford, in the Province of Nova Scotia and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and usefulIm- .provements in Guns, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to guns or rifles, the invention-having for an object the provision of an electrically operated firing pinwhereby the userof the on is relieved of the strain incidental to t e drawing back of the pin.
or further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference-will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are Fig. l of the \drawing is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view of a gun-having the invention applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary plan view.
Fig. 3 is a detail plan view of the circuit closing arm.
' Referring now to the drawing, the gun breech of the barrel is exposed by swinging the stock upon the barrel. The barrel is herev shown at,10, the lock portion 11 of Y the gun being hinged thereto as at 12, the
part a solenoid 15 whose plunger 16 constitutes the firing pin, the plunger being 40 stock being indicated at 13. It will be understood of'course that the usual mechanism will be applied to the lock to hold it in place. According to my invention, I mount in the uided in a .suitable lon itudinal passage 1n the part ll. Connecte to the rear end of the plunger is a brass rod '17 which extends through the solenoid and progects from the rear end of the latter and is surrounded at its rear end by a coiled tension spring 18. connected at one .end' to the solenoid at its opposite end to the said rod,
'be had from the butt end 0 this spring acting to urge the plunger for ward to explode the cartridge; For energizingthe solenoid I mount in a suitable cavity "in the stock 13, to,which cavity entrance may the stock, an
To-cause the. contact spring 30 to be moved against the contact 31 and so energize the 1 solenoid, I provide the following means:
Pivoted at one end to the part 11 as at 35 is an arm 36 which has its opposite, or free end en aging under the contact 30 so that when t is arm is swung upward the said contacts will be closed. This arm is formed, adjacent its pivoted end with a longitudinal slot 37 which extends somewhat less than one-half the length of the arm. --At the rear end of this slot an angular wall element 38 'is formed, the lower portion of this wall element being adapted to be enga ed by the end of a pin 39 slidable in a soc et 39 in an offset 40 from a trigger element 40 pivoted as 211241 in the part 11 and urged forwardly by a spring 42 coiled around its hinge pintle and connected at opposite ends respectively to said trigger element and the part 11. The pin 39 is urged rearwardly in the socket by means of a spring 44 located in said socket behind the pin, rearward movement of the pin being limited by means of a crosspin 45 therem engaging in slots such as 46 in the said ofl'se't40.
When the gun is to be fired, the members 27, 28 are compressed, and trigger 40 is pulled backward. The pin-39 engages the inclined lower part of t e wall element38 and moves the arm 36 upward to move the contact 30 against thecontact '31, the spring 44 in thepart 40' being strong enough to resist backward movement of the pin while the contacts are being closed. The circuit to the solenoid being closed the plunger is drawn back. Upon further. rearward movement' of the trigger, the arm 36 being stopped by the fixed element 31, the pin 39 is moved inward until it rides over the apex of the angular wall 38, when the arm w 36 falls and the circuit isopened. When the trigger is released it is returned to normal position by the spring 42, which latter 11s.- of suflicient strength to cause the com-- pression of the spring 44 as the pin 39 swings downward over the top part of the wall element-38. To limit the rearward movement of the plunger 16 to any desired extent Imay mount on the side of the part 11 1 a screw 50 over which is slipped'a collar as defined 1n the-a pen noid a spring urging sai ward .plunger is moved by energizing of the solenoid,"a battery, contact elements controlling having a" finger 52 prrg'ecting through. a slot 53 inthe side 'of'sai part ll' to engage behind therod .17, a pair ofj'nuts 54" beingv threaded on theJscrew on' opposite sides of f:
the collar to lock it in adjusted positions,
,While I have illustrated and describedfa preferred embodiment of my1invention itpis to be understood that I do'n'ot limit, myself the circuit from saidv battery to said solenoid, and a trigger element for closing said.
contacts, and means for adjustably limiting I the movement of the plung'er by the soleflnoidn I y e v 2. Ina I ,abarrel, asolenoid, afiring I in I :eonstitute by. thefplung'er thesolenoicl a fixed contact a jacent' spring urging said plun er rearward and adapted to be tensioned w en the plunger is t moved by the solenoid, a battery contact elements controlling the circuit rom' the battery to the solenoid, said contact elements comprising a spring contact and a v fixed contact adjacent thereto 'an arm pivoted at one end in the gun, and a trigger elementadapted to engage said arm to move it to cause said spring contacts to be closed.
I 3, Ina gun, a barrel, a solenoid, a firing pin constituted by the plunger of the solenoid a spring urging said plunger rearward and iidapted to be tensioned when the plunger is moved by the solenoid, a battery, con:
tact elements controlling'the circuit from the battery to the solenoid. said contact elements comprisin contact and a ereto, .an arm pivoted at one end in the gun, and a trigger element adapted to engage said arm-tomove it to cause'said 'sprin contacts to' beclosed, saidtrigger element aving mounted therea .sprin' on asprmg-pressed pin adapted to en age an angular element on the said arm, sai pm being adapted to first move said spring contact into engagement with the fixed contact, and upon-continued movement of the trig-' 86 ger element to ride oil said an ular element to free the said arm and a1ow,,{the said spring contact tomove away from 'th'e' fixed if;
