Abstract

A process for the preparation of dry polyamides in finely divided state comprises exposing wet finely divided polyamide to a pressure of less than 10 mm. of mercury at a temperature of at least 80 DEG C. to dry it, and, on completion of the drying process, removing the vacuum by supplying to the vacuum chamber a dry inert gas. The examples describe the treatment of polyaminocaproic acid, inert gases specified being carbon dioxide and nitrogen, the products being melt spun into filaments.
