Abstract

A process for the preparation of diphenylamine comprises contacting anhydrous aniline in the presence of, as catalyst, boron fluoride, boron fluoride-aniline complex or boron fluoride-ammonia complex, the contact taking place under superatmospheric pressure and a temperature between 250 DEG C. and 400 DEG C. Ammonia produced in the process may be removed as it is formed e.g. by means of a stream of inert gas. Examples are furnished.
