Abstract
In an ammonia-hydrogen isotopic exchange process, the liquid ammonia contains an alkali metal amide as catalyst and a soluble nitrite, e.g. an alkali metal nitrite, to increase the solubility of said amide in the ammonia. The catalyst may be potassium amide and the nitrite may be potassium nitrite. The temperature of the exchange reaction may be - 70 DEG C.
