Abstract
In the contact process for the production of sulphuric acid from sulphur dioxide containing organic impurities, the washed sulphur dioxide is dried with 70-85% sulphuric acid and then with ca. 98% sulphuric acid, the first drying acid being blown with air after use and then treated with hydrogen peroxide, to remove absorbed sulphur dioxide and organic impurities. The resulting acid may be used for absorption of the sulphur trioxide produced by catalyst contact. The sulphur dioxide-containing gas produced by blowing may be recycled to the process. The blown acid may be treated in batches with hydrogen peroxide. An example is given.
