Abstract

11-Bromo-undecanoic acid is prepared by passing hydrogen bromide and molecular oxygen, air or ozonised air into a solution of undec-10-enoic acid in 11-bromo-undecanoic acid in the absence of additional solvents. The process may be made continuous. The reaction may be accomplished by passing gaseous HBr and oxygen into the acid alone, the bromo-acid formed then acting as solvent. According to the Provisional Specification, additional solvents may be present.
