Abstract

916,520. Inspecting yarns. MONSANTO CHEMICAL CO. July 11, 1961 [July 29, 1960], No. 25142/61. Classes 120 (3). In yarn inspection apparatus comprising a catcher, clearer or cleaner normally detecting defects e.g. slubs, arising from yarn portions of enlarged diameter in a running yarn and initiating a signal, a stop-motion or corrective action, the transfer of yarn feed from one bobbin to another causes the yarn to be diverted from its normal path for sufficient time to ensure that a transfer or tie-in knot in the yarn is not engaged by the catcher &c As shown, the shift of a yarn from bobbin 16 to reserve bobbin 11 (and thence through a tensioner 20 and guide rod 32) causes yarn adjacent a transfer knot 17 to pivot a bar 25 into engagement with a curved bar 26, thus momentarily completing a circuit to and energizing a solenoid 42 the armature of which, through a link 43, pivots an arm 22 to lift the yarn, passing through an eyelet therein, into the position shown chain-dotted i.e. clear of the narrow portion of a flared opening 33 formed by clearer plates 28. The circuit opens and the arm 22 is slowly returned to the normal position by a spring 40 against the restraint of a dash-pot 45.
