Abstract

916,311. Baling machines. LINDEMANN, W. Aug. 29, 1960 [Nov. 16, 1959], No. 29726/60. Class 94(1). In a baling machine having a plunger 2 which repeatedly presses the material to be baled, the material delivered into the baling chamber 1 towards the final stages of each bale is automatically delivered in smaller amounts, so that, if some bales are formed with an extra delivery of materials, the difference in weight of such bales will be slight. On actuation of the hand switch 54, relay 37 is attracted for a period set by a switch 39 of a time mechanism 38 and fibrous material is supplied to the chamber 1 by means of a blower 17 driven by a motor 18. At the end of the set period the relay 37 drops and thereby, through a control swtich 44 and solenoid 46, causes an hydraulic valve 9 to drive the plunger 2 down, a switch 48 automatically causing the plunger to be raised. Switch 49 actuates the mechanism 38 for a further cycle. As the bale grows, pressure in hydraulic cylinder 5 increases until a relay 23, which may be pre-set, is operated to bring a switch 40 of the mechanism 38 into play in place of the switch 39. This causes the motor 18 to operate for shorter periods, blower 17 thereby supplying smaller amounts of material. Finally, pressure in the cylinder 5 is sufficient to actuate a relay 24 and return the valve 9 to its orignal position, thereby arresting the plunger 2. The bale may then be corded and removed.
