Abstract

916,167. Turning coating rolls. INLAND STEEL CO. March 10, 1959 [March 17, 1958], No. 8209/59. Class 83 (3). Apparatus-for turning or trimming coating rolls, such as for galvanizing, comprises translating means rotatably journalled between frame members, track means extending between support members and a carriage assembly comprising a cutting tool adapted to ride on the track means. The coating rolls 10, Figs. 1 and 2, are supported in vertical frame members 14 connected to an overhead beam 16. A pair of feed-screws 18 are rotatably supported between the frame members 14 and driven by a reversible motor 58. A pair of cross-heads are oscillatably carried at each end of a feed screw and a pair of guide rails 62 extend between each pair of cross-heads. The latter each carry two legs 22, 26, Fig. 2, with bearing pads at their ends to engage a boss on the roll-ends and spring- pressed together so that they act to centralize the guide rails relative to the roll axes. A toolcarriage 60 is guided by rollers 66 to run on each pair of rail tracks and supports an adjustable arm 68 which carries a trimming-tool 70. The carriage 60 is automatically reversed at the end of the stroke by switches 59, Fig. 1.
