Abstract
830,969. Propelling vehicles. STRACHAN & HENSHAW Ltd. April 12, 1957 [Jan. 12, 1956], No. 1141/56. Class 103(3) [Also in Group XXX] A device for moving rail wagons comprises a carriage 21 movable along track rails 23 between two parallel main tracks 24 and past any wagon 25 on the tracks and having an arm 86 movable to one side or the other of the carriage to engage a buffer on a wagon on a main track. The arm 86 is mounted on a frame pivoted at 88 on the carriage and carries a roller 93 which moves between the members of two frames 89, 90 which tilt the arm to one side or the other. The frames which extend to either side of the rail track 23 have a horizontal rail section 91, 92 and a downward section 94, 95 part 96, 97 of which can be pivoted so that either part lies parallel to the other section 94, 95 and guides the roller to one side or other of the frames to pivot the buffer arm to engage a wagon. Two rollers 100 on vertical pivots engage the inside of the track rails 23. The carriage may be moved by a threaded spindle 27 extending at one end through a nut 31 on the carriage the other end being rotatably mounted in bearing 29 and driven by a motor 36. The spindle is enclosed by a telescopic housing secured at one end to the bearing 29 and at the other end to the carriage one end of the telescopic slides being mounted on a bearing and the other ends having a shoe contacting the rail. The housing contracts or expands as the carriage moves. The carriage is alternatively moved by rack and pinion.
