Abstract
915,276. Boosting transformers; transformers. FOSTER TRANSFORMERS Ltd., and JENNINGS, R. E. July 21, 1960 [July 23, 1959], No. 25286/59. Classes 38 (2) and 38 (4). A voltage regulator comprises a main tapped transformer winding 6 with off-load contacts 10. 11 engageable with the taps, which are each connected through a reversely connected winding 21, 22 to an on-load selector switch 23-25 The windings 21, 22 form secondaries of a booster transformer 20 whose primary winding 14 carries a voltage variable from zero to that existing across the two halves of an auxiliary winding 13. By varying the conduction of a pair of rectifiers 16, which in. the Provisional Specification are specified to be of the siliconcontrolled type, and changing over a switch 17- 19 when the rectifiers are non-conducting, the voltage in the windings 21, 22 is raised in two stages of a quarter, to half that existing between the taps. Dependent on the position of the switch 23-25, the voltage in windings 21, 22 bucks or boosts the voltage from winding 6. An arrangement is described (Fig. 2, not shown) whereby the stages are in increments of oneeighth of that between taps, this improving the waveform of the voltage. A circuit for phasecontrolling the rectifiers is described in the Specification. Specifications 775,741 and 775,742 are referred to.
