Abstract
915,117. Screening apparatus. GENERAL MILLS Inc. May 22, 1959 [May 29, 1958], No. 17578/59. Class 117. A sifting box 10 on hangers 11 is reciprocated by an eccentric 12 and rod 12a, and houses upper and lower sifting surfaces 19, 21 and 20, 24, respectively. The sifting area 19 is of finer mesh than the area 21, and the mesh of both areas 20 and 24 is finer than that of area 19. Stock, e.g. flour, is fed through an inlet 13 and the coarsest fraction passes over the upper surface to an outlet 14. The coarse middlings are received on a surface 23 and flow to an outlet 15 : medium and fine middlings pass through area 19 to the lower sifting surface and the medium middlings flow over this surface to an outlet 16 ; fine middlings pass through oven 24 to outlet 17, and the finest stock flows through area 20 to outlet 18. In the embodiment of Fig. 3 the lower surface 25 is of uniform mesh throughout and finer than that of both upper areas 19 and 21, and four outlets 14-17 for the various grades are provided.
