Abstract
670,017. Separating granular material. MOGENSEN. F. K., (trading as KOMMANDITBOLAGET F. MOGENSEN & CO.). Jan. 31, 1949 [Jan. 31, 1948], No. 2547/49. Class 117 In a method of separating crushed ore and the like into fractions according to particle size, the particle mixture is passed through a system of obstacles arranged so that all the particles can pass through the system, the coarser particles being diverted from the path of the finer particles due to their greater frequency of coll sion with said obstacles, and the fractions of sized particles being collected at various positions according to their path of travel through the system. As shown the obstacle 'system comprises superposed parallel sieves 10 all having the same size of aperture, which is large enough to pass the coarsest size particles, and being inclined downwardly to one side to determine the direction of diversion of the coarser particles during their travel. Vibratory movement may be imparted to the sieves. The mixture is fed via a shoot 18 to the upper end of the top sieve 10 and the fractions are collected in increasing order of particle size, as determined by the extent of diversion from the straight-through path, at points 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17. In an alternative arrangement the particle mixture may be passed intermittently through the system and the collections made at intervals to collect equally delayed particles, the coarser particles escaping from the system at a later time than the finer particles. A series of systems may be used, each system classifying the finest fraction issuing from the preceding system. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also an arrangement wherein the sieves 10 are supported in a casing mounted on springs and vibrated by a crank mechanism. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
