Abstract
1,110,558. Sifting apparatus, vibrating filte r. SOUTH WESTERN ENGINEERING CO. 29 Dec., 1965 [21 Jan., 1965], No. 55129/65. Headings BID and B2H. In a vibratory separator, an annular screen 14 having a central discharge opening is secured at its outer periphery to a housing 7, 9, 17 and material to be separated is fed via a cntral opening 19 in the housing cover 18 on to a dome member 21 which distributes the material on to the screen adjacent its outer periphery, the housing and screen being vibrated by adjustable eccentric weights 5 driven by a motor 4 to cause movement of the material from the outer periphery of the screen towards the central discharge opening. The oversize component is discharged through the central opening on to a dome member 6 and out through an outlet 8. The component of material passing through the screen falls on to an annular dome member 11 and is discharged through an outlet 10. The housing is mounted on springs 2 arranged in a ring. The screen 14 has an outer rim 15 which is clamped between the housing sections 9 and 17 and an inner rim which is secured to a rim 13 of the dome member 11. The dome member 21 is suspended from the cover 18 by means of vanes 20. The mass and the relative angular position of the eccentric weights may be adjusted to vary the dwell time of the material in the screen. The separator may be used to separate solid material into particles of different sizes and to separate liquid from solid material. Instead of being disposed horizontally the screen 14 may slope towards or away from the central discharge opening. Figs. 3 and 5 (not shown). Central discharge of the oversize component may be controlled by an annular weir (25), Fig 4 (not shown). Two or more screens 14, 28 Fig. 6 may be arranged in coaxial stacked relation, an additional distribution dome 27 being provided between the screens. The screens may have identical mesh, in which case the outlets 10, 30 discharge into a common duct 31. Alternatively, the upper screen may be of finer mesh and separate outlet ducts are provided. In a further arrangement, Fig. 7, an upper coarser screen 14 discharges the oversize material into a central duct 32 which communicates with a lateral duct 33. A lower finer screen 28 discharges the middlings into an annular duct 34 communicating with an outlet duct 35. The fine material passing through the screen 28 is discharged through an outlet 10.
