[Classes 82(ii) and 117] An apparatus for classifying and separating solid bodies carried by a liquid current comprises a chute whose walls converge and whose depth increases towards the outlet, thus producing a vertical lamellar jet of the liquids on issuance and a gravitational classification of the solid particles. In the apparatus shown the width x of the chute decreases as the depth y increases, to define the outlet d, the base c being either straight or curved. The walls a, b may also be straight, or curved at at a<1>, b<1>, and baffles e may be arranged to separate the different fractions, such baffles being capable of adjustment by either manual or. automatic control. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also comprises the application of the chute to separating solid bodies carried by a gaseous stream. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
