Abstract
Apparatus for the separation of particulate materials of different particle sizes comprises a mixing vessel (2) arranged to be continuously supplied with a liquid suspending agent and having agitator means (6) for maintaining the particulate material in suspension in the liquid suspending agent, a substantially vertical screen (3) in the path of liquid exiting the vessel for retaining particles having greater than a predetermined particle size, baffle means (11) mounted in the vessel adjacent the upstream face of the screen and defining therewith a flotation zone, and means (10) for producing a curtain (13) of air bubbles within the flotation zone on the upstream face of the screen with respect to the flow of the liquid exiting the vessel. <IMAGE>
