Abstract
An emulsifying agent for bituminous emulsions prepared in acidulated water consists of a non-ionic surface-active agent and a condensation product obtained by reacting a polyalkylene polyamine with an alkylene oxide and a fatty acid and/or resin acid, such acids having from 12 to 22 carbon atoms and preferably from 14 to 20 carbon atoms in the molecule. The non-ionic surface-active agents suitable are the water-soluble condensation products of higher aliphatic alcohols, alkyl phenols, higher fatty acids, higher fatty amides, ethanolamides and higher aliphatic primary amines with alkylene oxides, the condensation products of C16 to C18 aliphatic alcohols, e.g. cetyl alcohol and oleyl alcohol, with ethylene oxide being preferred. Specified polyalkylene polyamines are diethylene triamine, tetramethylene pentamine, dipropylene triamine, bis(hexamethylene) triamine or tris(hexamethylene) tetramine or mixtures thereof. The fatty acid or resin acid may be palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid or tall oil fatty acids, and the alkylene oxide may be ethylene oxide or propylene oxide. Suitable acids for acidulating the water are hydrochloric, sulphuric, phosphoric and formic acids. Specification 913,909 is referred to.ALSO:Bituminous emulsions prepared in acidulated water contain an emulsifying agent consisting of non-ionic surface active agent and a condensation product obtained by reacting a polyalkylene polyamine with an alkylene oxide and a fatty acid and/or resin acid, such acids having from 12 to 22 carbon atoms and preferably from 14 to 20 carbon atoms in the molecule.
