Abstract

Compounds of ampholytic character suitable for treating polyethylene glycol terephthalate fibres are produced by reacting a polyethylene glycol with a meta-phosphoric acid alkyl ester and subsequently reacting the polyethylene glycol or the phosphoric acid alkyl ester thus obtained with an alkyl amine or alkylol amine. The polyethylene glycol may have a molecular weight between 200 and 1,000, and specified amines and alkylolamines are stearylamine, cetylamine and triethanolamine. Examples describe the preparation of compounds having the formulae : <FORM:0845688/IV(a)/1> where x=4 or 7 and <FORM:0845688/IV(a)/2> where y=14.ALSO:Compounds of ampholytic character suitable for treating polyethylene glycol terephthalate fibres are produced by reacting a polyethylene glycol with a meta-phosphoric acid alkyl ester and subsequently reacting the polyethylene glycol orthophosphoric acid alkyl ester thus obtained with an alkyl amine or alkylolamine. The polyethylene glycol may have a molecular weight between 200 and 1000, and specified amines and alkylolamines are stearylamine, cetylamine and triethanolamine. Examples describe the preparation of compounds having the formulae: <FORM:0845688/IV(b)/1> where x = 4 or 7 and <FORM:0845688/IV(b)/2> where y = 14ALSO:Polyethylene glycol terephthalate filaments and fibres are treated with a solution of a product formed by reacting a polyethylene glycol with a meta-phosphoric acid alkyl ester and subsequently reacting the polyethylene glycol orthophosphoric acid alkyl ester thus obtained with an alkyl amine or alkylolamine; the treatment facilitates subsequent processing of the filaments or fibres, e.g. on a card. The polyethylene glycol may have a molecular weight between 200 and 1,000, and specified amines and alkylolamines are stearylamine, cetylamine and triethanolamine. The products may be applied from solution in water, benzene, alcohol or petroleum ether. Examples describe the treatment of fibres with compounds having the formulae: <FORM:0845688/IV (c)/1> p where x = 4 or 7 and <FORM:0845688/IV (c)/2> where y = 14
