Abstract

A basic wax containing one or more groups of the formula <FORM:1111031/C2/1> is prepared by reacting a glycidyl ether of an aliphatic alcohol containing 16 to 30 carbon atoms with a primary and/or secondary monoamine containing 10 to 24 carbon atoms, and/or with a polyamine containing 2 to 12 carbon atoms and 2 to 6 amino groups. The reaction is carried out between 30 DEG and 200 DEG C., if desired in the presence of solvents. Examples are give of the reaction of octadecyl glycidyl ether with ethylene diamine, hexamethylene diamine, p-xylylene diamine and octadecylamine. The waxes may be used in floor and leather polishes, as protection against corrosion, as lubricating waxes, and as auxiliaries in the textile and paper industries.
