914,311. Stoppers for non-refillable bottles; stoppers. SEAGRAM & SONS Inc., JOSEPH E. March 10, 1959 [March 10, 1958], No. 8178/59. Classes 66 and 125(3). A non-refillable bottle stopper comprises a body 10 and a spout 20, an annular shoulder 26 on the body 10 providing a seat for a ball valve 25, a disc 30 integral with the spout, and a resilient washer 39 on a flange 37 of the body, which prevents the stopper from being pulled outwards. A screw-cap 14 has a liner 23 of paper or cork coated with a liquidresistant film 23a A gasket 18 provides a further seal between the body 10 and the bottle neck. The spout and body, which are both of thermoplastic material, may be united by heat or cemented together. Ribs 28 on the body 10 guide the ball 25 when moved off its seating 26. Diametrically placed posts 32 provide a mounting for the disc 30 and delimit openings 34 between them for the passage of liquid. The washer 39 may be of copper, brass, stainless steel or of a plastics material'such as nylon, " Teflon " (Registered Trade Mark) or polyethylene. Passages 40 in the body 10 are to allow liquid to drain which becomes trapped round the body. The device may be formed by injection moulding or casting.
