A non-refillable stopper for a bottle comprises a valve 4 in the body 17 of the stopper, deflecting means 9 including a cap 10 and radial fins 11 on which rests a movable disc 15, and means for securing the body 17 to the bottle. A valve support 2 fits in the bottle neck 3. The means 9 also includes inner fins 12, 12a, upper fins 13, 13a on the cap 10, and one or more annuli 16. The outlet 18 formed in the body 17 is closed by a screw-cap 19 having fins 20 fitting between the fins 13, 13a, so that screwing on the cap 19 causes the fins 13 to turn, thereby making the fins 12 move a projection 7 on the valve 4 to stop the valve sticking on its seating. The stopper is secured by a skirt 21. All the above parts may be in metal, glass, or plastics material. The body 17 may have a neck, Fig. 2 (not shown), projecting upwards through the skirt, and the stem 5 of the valve may be of different material from the valve head 4, or the stem may be hollow, or it may have a recess containing a weight. The parts 12, 13 and 20 may be omitted. Either the skirt 21 or the body 17 may carry a cap member, Figs. 4 and 5 respectively, (not shown), the cap being defined by grooves in the skirt or body. In a further modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), the stopper is contained in the bottle neck, the stopper body being integral with the skirt and having internal threads to receive a tubular extension of the screw cap. Alternatively, Fig. 7 (not shown), the stopper body may have an externally threaded upward extension, of less diameter than the body, which receives a screw cap. Or again, Fig. 8 (not shown), the stopper body may itself be formed with a skirt for securing it to the bottle neck and either the body or the skirt may have lugs which are bent over a flange on the screw cap to secure it from tampering. The skirt may also, Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown), have an aperture, the edges of which are flanged to secure a label. A fluid-tight annular packing may be inserted between the bottle neck and the stopper body, Fig. 11 (not shown), and a metal strip, Fig. 12 (not shown), which may have weakened lines ending in a tongue to provide a tear-off strip, may enclose the end of the bottle neck and the stopper body.
