Abstract

913,924. Two-part couplings. ASHLEY ACCESSORIES Ltd. Feb. 1, 1960 [Nov. 13, 1958], No. 36458/58. Class 38 (1). A switch in a switched socket connector is held open, regardless of the position of the switch dolly, until a plug, when almost completely inserted in the socket, displaces a spring-pressed plate or arm which holds a spring-urged contact away from a fixed contact. As shown (Figs. 1 and 2) a rocker plate 10 pivotally supported in the connector is urged, by a spring 26, against an insulating pad 16 on a contact member 17 acted on by a spring 18. A contact 20 on member 17 is held away from a fixed contact 22 until plug pins engage a projection 13 on the rocker plate 10 and displace the plate. When the switch is opened the dolly engages the pad 16 and separates a contact 19 on the member 17 from a fixed contact 21, the contact 20 rocking on the contact 22 if the switch is closed. In another embodiment, Figs. 4 and 5, the rocking plate is replaced by a lever 30 urged by a spring 34 to engage an insulating pad 32 to hold contacts 20, 22 apart. The lever is released when the plug pins enter the socket and engage a projection 33 on the lever.
