An outlet valve 9 from the condenser 2 is controlled by a thermal element 6 located in a gas by-pass 5 around the condenser so as to be closed as long as gas flows through the bypass but to be opened due to the fall in gas temperature in the by-pass when flow therethrough is blocked by the rise in liquid level in the condenser outlet 7. In a modification, the by-pass is in parallel with both a condenser and a receiver.
