Abstract

<PICT:0881993/III/1> In a steam condenser installation, which is supplied via pipe 6 and pump 7 with cooling-water from the sea or a river, the warm cooling-water leaving condenser 1 passes along pipe 2 to three-way valve 3 containing a movable member which varies the ratio of one discharge port of the valve with respect to the other, whereby a controlled amount of cooling-water may be returned to the condenser via pipe 5, while the remainder is discharged to waste via pipe 4. The warm cooling-water returned via pipe 5 mixes with cold colling-water entering pump 7 so that the temperature of the cooling-water entering the condenser can be adjusted according to the amount of steam to be condensed. The movable member of valve 3 may be connected to servo-mechanism sensitive to the temperature of the condensate.
