1,085,633. Cooling reactors. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Oct. 7, 1965 [Oct. 26, 1964], No. 43659/64. Heading G6C. In a liquid metal impurity content monitor, of the " plugging meter" type, the known relationship between temperature and impurity solubility is employed. The impurity saturation temperature is measured to provide an indication of the extent of the contamination of the metal. Cooling of the liquid metal is automatically adjusted to maintain a partial blockage, by the precipitated impurity, in the flow system. The cooling is effected by a flow of cold air which is automatically adjusted in correspondence with liquid metal flow rate through the blockage. To prevent instability in the system, the monitored flow is divided into two coaxial streams, the blockage being produced in one and the flow change being detected in the other.
