Abstract
1308466 Cooling nuclear reactors UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 23, Sept 1970 [7 Oct 1969] 49317/69 Addition to to 1085633 Heading G6C In a sodium cooled fast reactor, the impurity content of the coolant is monitored by a "plugging meter". The reactor coolant sample is urged through the orifice 15 by the pump 12. Flow division occurs at 15, as described in Specification 1,085,633, and the degree of contamination is indicated by the temperature, measured by the thermocouple 23. The closed loop 30 transfers heat from a region upstream of 15 to a region downstream of the orifice by means of the heat exchangers 14, 18. The rate of heat transfer by loop 30 is controlled by the pump 31 which is retroactively adjusted by the thermocouple 15 and the flow meter 2 through the amplifier 35.
