Abstract
1322221 Cooling reactors UNITED KING- DOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 19 April 1971 [6 Feb 1970] 5837/70 Heading G6C [Also in Division F2] In a liquid sodium cooled fast-fission nuclear reactor, reverse coolant flow through a pump when stopped, is prevented by a self closable valve in the pump circuit. Liquid sodium coolant is circulated by the pump, 7, through the reverse flow self-closable valve, 9, the coolant inlet header, 11, the reactor core, 5, and the heat exchanger 6. Three such parallel coolant circuits are employed. During a stoppage of one of the pumps, the associated valve closes and prevents sodium from the header 11 from by-passing the reactor core through the stopped pump.
