Abstract

913,529. Spray-producers. ROBERTS Ltd., J. W. July 27, 1960 [July 28, 1959; Sept. 15, 1959; March 16, 1960], Nos. 25893/59, 31455/59 and 9292/60. Class 69 (3). Two liquids, e.g. an isocyanate and a resin, which react to form a solid foamed product, are fed separately into a mixing chamber 5 of a spray gun, and are mixed by an air current which carries them from a discharge outlet. The air supply is maintained after both the liquid supplies have been cut-off to scour and empty the chamber. Air is fed to a passage 14 and a part of it flows through a passage 15 to an atomizing head 4; some flows through passage 16 to a blind bore 8 of a plug 7 and issues from tangential passages 9 in the plug. Air also passes from the passage 14 through further passages and one-way valves to chambers 22 and 25 to which the two liquids are supplied via passages 32 and 23, Fig. 4. Thus, liquid suspended in air flows from chamber 22 to an annular space 26 and issues from small passages 27 into'the mixing chamber and similarly liquid in suspension passes from chamber 25 to a space 28 and issues from outlet passages 29. In a modification, one of the liquids enters the mixing chamber through an annular space similar to the space 26, but the other liquid is carried by compressed air into the plug bore and issues in tangential streams opposed to those of the first liquid.
