Abstract

An aqueous urea solution is evaporated to produce a urea melt having a low biuret concentration by drying said solution at elevated temperatures in the form of a thin film in a normal tubular falling film evaporator, without additional mechanical means and in the presence of a counter-current of air. The aqueous solution is preferably evaporated at a temperature of between 125 DEG and 150 DEG C. and the counter-current of air is preferably pre-heated to a temperature of between 130 DEG and 160 DEG C. A suitable evaporator consists of a number of upright parallel heated tubes, over the internal surface of which the solution passes. Specification 767,716 is referred to.
