Abstract

A process for the partial or complete dehydration of Ba(OH)2.8H2O comprises passing streams of an aqueous solution or a melt of Ba(OH)2.8H2O into a dehydration zone and subjecting them during at least part of their travel to conditions of elevated temperature being provided by passing hot gas, which is either air or a gas inert to Ba(OH)2, through said zone, the hot gas being at a temperature sufficiently above the temperature of said streams to effect the required dehydration. The examples relate to the spray drying of Ba(OH)2.8H2O melt in air at various temperatures in the range 100-225 DEG C.
