Abstract

In a process for reactivating alumina used as an absorbent which is a modification of the process described in Specification 620,397, and which uses the apparatus therein described, the heaters embedded in the absorbent and the preheater for the wash gas are so regulated as to maintain the temperature of the wash gas between 375 DEG and 425 DEG F., the particles of alumina not being heated above 600 DEG F. The wash gas moving through the absorbent tower thereby has a narrow temperature gradient or a substantially constant temperature throughout the length of its path.
