Abstract

The invention is a procedure for using damp lead sulphide concentrate to create a suitable starting material for the production of lead by means of rust reaction. The invention is unique in that granules or pellets of oxidic and/or sulphatic crude lead are charged to a drum-shaped container, which can rotate along its longitudinal axis, together with the non-dried, damp ore concentrate, which through heating and rotation of the container is caused to dry and form granulate containing sulphide. The granulate is used without prior sintering to produce lead following the rust reaction procedure.The container is preferably a Kaldo converter that is heated with an oil/acidic gas burner and rotates at 1-5 revolutions per minute. The subsequent rust reaction process can be performed in the same oven unit.<IMAGE>
