Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide the title recarburizer by heating anthracite to a high temp. in the absence of air to remove the volatile component. CONSTITUTION:Anthracite is charged into a refractory sheath, which is covered to isolate the anthracite from the air. This sheath is placed in a tunnel furnace and heated to 1000-1300 deg.C, whereby the volatile component of the anthracite is removed without oxidation-burning the anthracite, and part of sulfur contained is also removed. The anthracite thus treated can be used as a recarburizer for hot iron and molten steel.
