Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide the title recarburizer with a superior recarburizing property by calcining earthy graphite of low ash content at a high temp. in the absence of air. CONSTITUTION:Earthy graphite contg. below 12% ashes is charged into a refractory sheath, which is covered to isolate the graphite from the external atmosphere. This sheath is placed in a tunnel calcination furnace and calcined at the highest temp. of 1200 deg.C for 3hr. Sulfur contained in the graphite is reduced from about 0.2% to about 0.1%. The calcined graphite is superior to ash-rich earthy graphite in recarburizing property, and it is used as a recarburizer for hot iron and molten steel in place of an artificial graphite recarburizer.
