Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce a fully aromatic polyester having excellent moldability, by adding a specified amount of a polyphenylene sulfide to the polymerization system and carrying out the polymerization by a bulk polymerization process.
CONSTITUTION: A fully aromatic polyester (with substituents on an aromatic ring are positioned para or meta to each other) represented by the formula, wherein X is a 1W4C alkylene, -O-, -SO2-, -S- or -CO, m and n are each O or 1, d/l is 1:1W10:1 and l/f is 9:10W10:9, is prepared by adding 5W30wt%, based on final polymer, polyphenylene sulfide to an aromatic polyester component (preferably, a combination of p-hydroxybenzoic acid (ester), terephthalic acid (ester) and 4,4'-dihydroxydiphenyl (ester)), and bulk-polymerizing the mixture at about 200W 400°C.
