Abstract

<PICT:0632643/III/1> An adsorber unit for conditioning gas has an entering surface for gas to be treated and an opposite face from which the gas emerges, an adsorbent between them, and a heater 24 embedded in the adsorbent and spaced a short distance from said opposite face and remote from the entering surface. In operation, gas to be treated enters chambers 5, passes up through a port 14 in a shell 2, thence down a port 13 and into the body of adsorbent into a chamber 6 and then out by a discharge duct 10. Simultaneously scavenging gas passes down a pipe 8 along a slide valve 16 to a port 13 in a second shell, upwardly through said port through a second body of adsorbent, a port 14, valve 15 and a pipe 9. To reactivate the adsorbent in the shell that has been adsorbing, the process is reversed by moving the valves 15 and 16 to their opposite position. The situation of the heater is such that scavenging gas contacts the hottest part of the adsorbent first, whereas the gas to be conditioned contacts the coolest part first. The adsorbent material itself may function as a heat insulator or a particular material may be used, and placed between the adsorbent and the face from which the conditioned gas emerges.
