Abstract

A polyamide comprising recurring units of the structural formulae <FORM:0899687/IV (a)/1> and <FORM:0899687/IV (a)/2> is made by heating at polymerization temperatures, in the presence of water as catalyst a mixture of 2,3- and 6,7-cyclopentanooenanthlactams. The process may be continuous or discontinuous and may be effected in the presence of acidic or basic molecular weight stabilizers. Two examples are given.
