Abstract
A platinum-coloured iron-silver alloy is formed by fusing in vacuo or an inert atmosphere a mixture of powdered silver and powdered iron, the iron having been formed by contacting impure iron with calcium in an inert gas atmosphere. Fusion is effected at a temperature of at least 1300 DEG C. and the mixture which may be compacted contains 20 to 35 parts of silver to 100 parts of iron. The fused alloy may be forged after cooling to below 700 DEG C. Specification 913,198 is referred to.
