Abstract

In a process for the production of uranium by reduction of the tetrafluoride with magnesium in a refractory-lined metallic reduction bomb, a small mass, at least 25 gms. (e.g. 35), of lithium is provided in the interior of the reaction mixture which is heated to at least 1400 DEG F. (preferably 1400-1500 DEG F.). The refractory lining to the bomb is preferably 0.75-1.5 inches of magnesium fluoride although fused dolomite may be used.
