Abstract

Plutonium-aluminium alloys are formed by mixing plutonium oxide with cryolite and adding the mixture, preferably in successive batches, with intermediate stirring, to molten aluminium and maintaining the mass at a temperature between 1050 and 1100 DEG C. In an example, a mixture of about 1 part of plutonium dioxide and about 2 parts of cryolite is pressed into aluminium cans which are added to aluminium molten under a layer of cryolite.
