[Also in Group XXXIII] A towing device for purposes of propulsion in sporting activities on water comprises an endless towing rope, guided by guide pulleys below water along a horizontal polygonal track, and driven by means of a motor, and floats on the surface of the water each connected by a rope to the towing rope to serve as a traction means for the object to be towed on the surface of the water. Pulleys 3 which guide the endless towing rope 1 are mounted each on a spindle 4 in a frame 5 mounting a number of cylindrical, air, containers 6. Cables 7 connected to weights 9 on the water bed, anchor the frame. A weighted tensioning rope 10 connects the frame to the water bed or bank. The pulley nearest the driving station 15 is coupled to a drive pulley 13 around which the driving rope passes. The driving station may be situated on the bank, or may float on or under the water. A rope 20 extends from a spring-winding means 19 on each float 17 which is connected by a rope 18 to the towing rope. The skier starts from a starting ramp, grasping a grip 22 on the end of the rope 20, the rope partially unwinds to reduce the initial rate of tow. When the skier releases the grip the rope rewinds automatically.
