912,786. Directing vehicle lamps. COUNCIL OF SCIENTIFIC & INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH. Jan. 21, 1959, No. 21942/62. Divided out of 906,929. Class 75 (3). In a fitting for rotating a vehicle lamp in predetermined relation with the movement of the track rod of the steering mechanism, the lamp is rotatably mounted on the vehicle and connected by a flexible connection to a gear train including at least two meshing gears, one gear of the train being connected to the flexible element and another meshing with a rack carried by the vehicle track rod so that the gear train provides an amplification in the angular displacement transmitted from the rack to the lamp. In the form shown, the lamp 1 -is carried by two off-centre pivots 23 in a bracket 24 attached to a bearing coupling 3. A flexible shaft 11 is pinned to the coupling 3 at one end and to a gear 13 at the opposite end. The gear 13 meshes with a gear 15 engaging a rack 16 secured to the track rod 19. The gears 13, 15 are carried by a bracket 20 secured to the chassis. The mounting of the lamp ensures that it will remain in a vertical position irrespective of the road gradient. The light may be on continuously or means may be provided for switching it only when the vehicle is taking a turn.
